Passing
through the two municipalities of Evia which are founded on
the side of Sterea: Avlida and Anthidona, we
locate a number of gorgeous cosmopolitan beaches, as well as
a variety of seaside restaurants, fish-taverns and other
eating-houses.
We
come across many taverns in the municipalities of Avlida and
Anthidona, even in spots remote from the beach.
In
touristic areas, such as Faros, Paralia, Agios
Minas, Alikes etc, we find find small or big
hotel units with modern equipment. Worthy of visit, are the
following monuments: Temple of Artemis of Avlida.
Ruins of the ancient temple.
During
the excavations in 1956 – 1961, at the spot of this
temple, a lot of statues (like the ones of Artemis and
Heccate) were revealed, as well as epigraphs, capitals,
sharp – ended amphorae, statuettes, shells, coins etc.
These findings are exhibited in the archaeological museum of
Thebes.
Area
of ancient Anthidona. Signs of ancient buildings and
of the warf on the coast.
Tomb
of Salganeas. Barrow which is believed to be the tomb of
the ship-pilot Salganeas, set up by Xerxis to his
honor.
