The
radius historical identity of Chalkida, might ccause the
centre of attention of the new-coming visitor of Evia, but
the rest of the regions comprising the centre of Evia, are
not of less interest.
First
of all, the region of the rich field of Lilantio,
meaning the modern municipality of Lilantio, which includes Vasiliko,
Lefkanti and other historical villages. The major in
the aspect of history region of Xeropolis is sited to the
beach of Lefkanti. Very significant findings, which are
dated since 1100 BC, originate from here.
In
the town of Vasiliko, is retained in very good condition one
of the most voluminous Venetian towers of Evia, known
as the tower of Vasiliko.
Two
kilometers to the east, in the region of Mitikas, we can see
the twin Venetian towers, in good condition also, on the top
of two hills opposite to each other. In the same region,
from the top of a taller hill, the legendary castle of
Filla overlooks the whole plain of Chalkida and
Lilantio. This castle was the base of operations of the
legendary knight Likarios, during the decade of his
dominance in Evia (1275 - 1285).
In
a distance of 11 kilometers to the east of Filla, the
monastery of Agios Georgios ARMA is built.
