"Drakospito"
and the ancient quarries of Ochi. One more
"drakospito" of great interest, right to the top
of Ochi, in which there have been found objects dated since
before the 5th century BC.
The
access to this "drakospito" is a chance for a
wonderful and healthy walk. In the surrounding area, there
are signs from the ancient quarries, from which the famous
green marble of Karistos was mined.
Kokkinokastro
of Karistos. The stronghold that garlands the beautiful
ancient capital of the Southern Evia.
Giokalio
Archaeological museum of Karistos. A very interesting
museum, with a lot of archaeological findings of the region.
The Folklore museum of Deligiorgis, also draws one’s
attention.
Mpourtzi.
A bi-level fort, still in perfect condition, at the east of
the port of Karistos. A remarkable fact, is that between the
building blocks of the structure, there are marbles
originating from an ancient pagan temple.
Ancient
Gerestos. Archaeolo-gical site in the location of the
ancient city.
Archaeological
site of Platanisto. Signs of an ancient village by the
name of "Elliniko". In these, a big wall
constructed of square blocks is also included.
